Only a couple of weeks after Golden Boy Promotions' first boxing card on DAZN of 2019 will the company go west for their second show.

It was originally reported that Machado would defend his title, likely against Cancio, on that date, but Vargas' title defense had not been set in stone at that point. Machado will defend his title for the third time since knocking out Jezreel Corrales in 2017.

Machado previously held the WBA "Super" title, but his title was downgraded to "Regular" titleholder, leading to Gervonta Davis becoming the new "Super" champion. Machado has not fought since knocking out Yuandale Evans in the first round in the co-main event of an HBO Boxing card from Madison Square Garden in October.

Vargas will be fighting for the first time since last May when he scored a unanimous decision win over Azat Hovhannisyan. Vargas was sidelined with surgery and ailments that prevented him from fight for the remainder of 2018, During his absence, an interim title was created, later won by Takuma Inoue on December 30 in a boxing card in Japan.

The card will take place around the same time as a Showtime-televised card in California that will feature Davis defending his title against Abner Mares. It is DAZN's third overall boxing card taking place in the United States in 2019 with the first one being a Matchroom Boxing card on January 18 and the second being a Golden Boy Promotions card in Houston on January 26.
