Golden Boy Promotions Sends Cease-And-Desist Letter To Floyd Mayweather Over Ryan Garcia

Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions are not happy with what they perceive as tampering from Floyd Mayweather Jr. regarding Ryan Garcia.

De La Hoya's company sent a cease-and-desist letter to Mayweather after Mayweather offered Garcia, one of Golden Boy Promotions' top rising stars, a big payday for a fight against one of Mayweather's fighters.

The saga between the two sides began when the 20-year-old Garcia elected to go to Carson, California to watch Gervonta Davis' latest WBA super featherweight title defense against Hugo Ruiz on February 9 instead of the Golden Boy Promotions card happening at the same time in Indio, California. This later led to Mayweather releasing a video in which he said he would pay Garcia $200,000 if he can defeat Rolando Romero, Garcia's former sparring partner who is currently promoted by Mayweather Promotions.

According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, "Golden Boy declared in the letter, reminding Mayweather that Garcia is under contract with De La Hoya, and any further activity perceived as tampering could generate legal action."

Regardless of what the end result of the Golden Boy Promotions-Mayweather Promotions saga is, Garcia still has a fight to prepare for in late March. Garcia is scheduled to headline the March 30 Golden Boy Promotions card that will be streamed on DAZN and will take on Jose Lopez in a lightweight bout. The card, taking place in Indio, will also feature a light flyweight bout between Angel Acosta and Ganigan Lopez for the WBO world title.
