Former two division UFC champion Georges St. Pierre recently announced his retirement from professional MMA competition, ending a career that began in January of 2002.
UFC Vice President Of Athlete Health & Performance Jeff Novitzky says that GSP has given his official retirement notice and is also out of the USADA testing pool.
?He is out [of the pool],? Novitzky said to MMA Fighting. ?He gave me written notice he?s retired and out of the USADA registered testing pool (RTP). If he were to ever return, he?d have to be back in for six months before competing.?
GSP had wanted a fight with UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, but retired once that bout couldn?t be put together. Nurmagomedov has taken to social media to try and convince GSP to not retire, but those efforts didn?t work out and the fighter wound up calling it a career.
St. Pierre was last seen in action at UFC 217 in November of 2017, defeating Michael Bisping to win the UFC Middleweight Title. GSP would eventually relinquish the title while battling ulcerative colitis, making then interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker the undisputed UFC Middleweight Champion.
