IBF Flyweight Title Fight To Open HBO's "Superfly 2" Card

HBO's "Superfly 2" event on February 24 won't open up with a super flyweight bout, but will feature a flyweight world title fight.

Donnie Nietes will defend his IBF flyweight title against Juan Carlos Reveco in the opening bout of the HBO card. This marks the third time Nietes will fight in the United States when he steps foot in the ring at The Forum in California.

“Fighting in Los Angeles for the third time in front of the great Filipino fans along with fighting on HBO is a great honor for me. I know how tough Reveco is but I’ll be well prepared to defend my title on Saturday, February 24,” Nietes said when the fight was announced.

Nietes, who hasn't lost a boxing fight since 2004, won the then-vacant IBF title when he defeated Komgrich Nantapech by unanimous decision in the Philippines. Nietes is a former world champion at minimumweight and light flyweight. Reveco, who is on a three-fight win streak, also defeated Nantapech in his last fight in an IBF title eliminator. Reveco last held the WBA "regular" flyweight title until he lost the title to recently-retired Kazuto Ioka.

The other two fights that will be shown on the televised card are Srisaket Sor Rungvisai vs. Juan Francisco Estrada for the WBC super flyweight and McWilliams Arroyo vs. Carlos Cuadras in another fight in the super flyweight division. The international portion of the HBO telecast will have another flyweight world title with the vacant WBA flyweight title fight between Brian Viloria and Artem Dalakian.
