Injuries Cause Northcutt vs. Makdessi To Be Pulled From UFC 214

MMA

The injury bug has struck the UFC again and this time it is affecting a fight that was set to be the featured prelim on the UFC Fight Pass portion of the UFC 214 card.

A lightweight division affair between Sage Northcutt and John Makdessi has been pulled from UFC 214 because both fighters have suffered injuries.

There is no word yet on what kind of injuries either fighter suffered, but they were severe enough to ensure that neither could compete on the card.

Northcutt was making his lightweight division return after a poor run at welterweight, as the fighter only won just one of three bouts during that welterweight division run.

Makdessi was looking to rebound from a stunning knockout loss at UFC 206, as he was knocked out by a spinning wheel kick to the head from Lando Vannata.

Even though a featured fight was pulled from the card, the UFC 214 event will still go on with a total of 12 fights. The UFC has yet to announce which fight will replace Northcutt/Makdessi as the featured UFC Fight Pass prelim at UFC 214.

UFC 214 takes place on Saturday, July 29 from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
