The UFC is set to return to Dublin, Ireland for the first time in many years on August 15 with UFC Fight Night Dublin.
However, it appears that the event could be in jeopardy because the country of Ireland has now placed a ban on major public gatherings until mid-September due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Reuters obtained the following statement on the matter from the government of Ireland:
?Local authorities have been advised by Government that event promoters should be informed that events requiring licences in excess of 5,000 will not be considered for the period up to the end of August.?
This would not be the first UFC event affected by the coronavirus pandemic, as the promotion has had to cancel and postpone multiple events due to the virus. This ban could also affect Bellator MMA, as they are scheduled to run an event in Ireland this Fall with Bellator Dublin.
There has been no comment yet from the UFC on Ireland?s ban or the status of the event.
