Israel Adesanya Challenges Conor McGregor's Claim To UFC Record

Israel Adesanya and Conor McGregor may never meet in the Octagon, but that won?t stop the fighters from battling each other in the UFC?s record books.

November 13 marked the four year anniversary of when McGregor defeated Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 to become the first two division simultaneous belt holder in the UFC.

McGregor celebrated the moment on Instagram, while also claiming he broke the record for the most knockdowns in a single UFC fight when he fought Alvarez:

Adesanya would comment on McGregor?s post, stating that McGregor is actually in second place when it comes to the record.

The reason for the dispute is despite McGregor saying he dropped Alvarez five times during their fight, the UFC record books say he only dropped Alvarez three times. While the UFC record books list Adesanya as the official record holder after he dropped Kelvin Gastelum four times in their meeting at UFC 236.
