Israel Adesanya Shoots Down Staph Infection Rumors Ahead Of UFC 248

MMA

UFC Middleweight Champion Israel Adesanya defends the gold against Yoel Romero this Saturday Night in the main event of UFC 248.

Rumors have surfaced that Adesanya may be dealing with a staph infection, but the champion says that there is merely a scrape on his elbow.

“It’s just a little something, a little scrape of myself,” Adesanya said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show (via Cole Shelton of BJPenn.com). “That s**t happens, but whatever.”

The scrape is not expected to affect Adesanya much, if at all, heading into his title defense this weekend at UFC 248.

Adesanya proclaims that he’ll never get a staph infection, but the champion has had malaria many times over the years.

“A little something. I’ve never had staph. I never will,” he said. “I’ve had malaria damn near eight times. I don’t know what else I’ve had. Like you think staph’s going to f**k with me?”

UFC 248 takes place on Saturday, March 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
