Iuri Alcantara Believes He Fights Better When Nervous

MMA

Iuri Alcantara and Darren Elkins both pulled come from behind victories at UFC 209, with the latter almost erasing the former from the memory of viewers.

Alcantara?s win came over Luke Sanders and he feels that the fact he fought nervously helped him get that victory.

?I usually don?t fight well when I?m not nervous,? Alcantara said after UFC 209. ?I wasn?t nervous (Saturday), and this happened. I fought poorly. I?m a little upset with myself because I didn?t show what I trained for, I didn?t use what I trained for. But thankfully I came out with this submission, something that I?ve practiced for years. I?m a jiu-jitsu black belt and whenever I?m in danger, I?m going after my jiu-jitsu and going to try to submit, always.?

The Brazilian fighter entered the fight ranked #15 in the UFC Featherweight Division. Pressure doesn?t get to Alcantara much due to the way he trains for fights.

?We go through these situations in training, and at the gym, so I?m a little bit used to feel that pressure, to feel the taste of blood,? Alcantara said. ?So when we get into the cage, we can endure it.?

Elkins had the other big come from behind victory at UFC 209 and that came over Mirsad Bektic.
