J'Leon Love On Peter Quillin Fight: "I Can’t Look At This As A Regular Fight”

Among the four fighters fighting in the main and co-main event fights on the upcoming PBC on FOX card, J’Leon Love stands as the odd man, being the only one to have never tasted world title gold.

Love, a rising contender in boxing’s super middleweight division, hopes to change his fortunes soon and put himself in the title picture when he faces former middleweight champion Peter Quillin on August 4. Love, who is on a seven-fight unbeaten streak, believes a win over Quillin puts him up there for a potential title shot down the road, telling Fightful in a recent conference call.

“Peter Quillin is a former world champion at 160. He’s done a great job there and he took some time off, but we’re still looking at him as the same world champion Peter Quillin. A win over him will definitely set me at the top where I need to challenge for a world title,” Love said.

With Love ranked No. 6 in the IBF rankings and No. 11 in the WBO rankings, his upcoming fight against Quillin is a must-win for him. That’s why he is taking this fight more seriously than his previous ones because of the stakes involved.

“I’m definitely not approaching this as just the same. This fight is big. At the end of the day, this is definitely my time to shine and just need to do what I need to do to be at the top of game. I can’t look at this as a regular fight,” Love said.

The August 4 PBC on FOX card, set to take place at Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York, will be headlined by a welterweight fight between former champions Devon Alexander and Andre Berto. Former IBF junior welterweight champion Sergey Lipinets is set to open the telecast with a fight at welterweight as well.
