James Thompson Fails Drug Test, Suspended One Year

MMA

James Thompson returned to action recently at Bellator 191 and was choke dout in the first round by UFC veteran Philip De Fries.

Things have continued taking a turn for the worse for Thompson because the fighter has been suspended one year by the Mohegan Tribe Department Of Athletic Regulation (MTDAR) for failed a drug test. Since Thompson lost the fight to De Fries, so no change will take place that would affect the result of the bout between the two.

It was The MMA Report that first broke the news.

The reason the MTDAR handed out the suspension is that the country of England, where the event was held, has no athletic commission to handle such things.

Thompson tested positive for a steroid known as drostanolone and it was collected from an in competition sample in line with Bellator 191.

Mike Mazzulli is the MTDAR director and he has already reached out to various promotions in England to make sure the one year suspension is enforced.

Since the drug test suspension is retroactive to the date of failure, a return to action for Thompson cannot take place until December 15 of 2018.

Neither Thompson or Bellator MMA officials have commented on the matter.
