Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury won't be the only boxers competing in a world title fight on the December 1 Showtime pay-per-view.
Unified IBF, WBA and IBO junior middleweight champion Jarrett Hurd will defend his titles against Jason Welborn on the December 1 event from Los Angeles. This will be Hurd's first fight since unifying all three titles earlier this year when he defeated Erislandy Lara on a Showtime Championship Boxing main event from Las Vegas.
Hurd has been sidelined for months due to surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff on his left shoulder. Hurd, sporting a 22-0 record, will be fighting on a pay-per-view card for the first time in his career. The 28-year-old Hurd won the IBF title back in 2017 and has made two successful title defenses.
Welborn had spent the year fighting at middleweight, winning the BBBofC British middleweight title after a split decision win over Tommy Langford. Welborn last fought in September when he successfully retained his title with another split decision win over Langford in a rematch. Welborn sports a 24-6 record as a pro and is ranked No. 10 by the WBA and No. 9 by the IBF.
The other world title fight on the December 1 pay-per-view from the Staples Centers is the WBC heavyweight world title fight between Wilder and Fury which is the main event.
