Jeff Horn's Promoter Offers Fight Against Kell Brook

Kell Brook may not be getting Amir Khan next, but he could still fight a former world champion in the near future.

Sky Sports Boxing revealed that Dean Lonergan, the promoter for former welterweight titleholder Jeff Horn, has offered Brook a fight against Horn in May. Lonergan said his side has contacted Brook's promoter Eddie Hearn about the possibility of making the fight a reality.

"I've got a text into Eddie at the moment, my matchmaker has an email and a phone call into Eddie, we love this fight, to have Jeff Horn fight Kell Brook," Lonergan said.

As far as where a fight between the two could potentially take place, Lonergan added that staging the fight in Sheffield, England, Brook's hometown, would be a great place as he believes such a fight could headline a card at a stadium. The stadium in question could likely refer to Bramall Lane, a soccer stadium in Sheffield that Brook last fought in 2017 when he lost his IBF welterweight title to Errol Spence Jr.

"If you were going to do it, you would definitely go to England, because the boxing market up there is on fire, and Kell Brook in Sheffield, which is where he comes from, you're definitely going to be filling a stadium wherever you go," Lonergan said.

Brook had been hoping to get a fight against long-time British rival Amir Khan, but with Khan set to fight WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford next, Brook is left without an opponent. Brook is on a two-fight win streak and won his last fight against Michael Zerafa to become the mandatory challenger to Jarrett Hurd's WBA junior middleweight title. Hurd is reportedly negotiating a fight against Julian Williams, the mandatory challenger to Hurd's IBF title.

Horn has only fought once since losing his title to Crawford in the summer of 2018. The 30-year-old Horn knocked out Anthony Mundine in the first round of a fight this past November. The fight was contested at a catchweight within the middleweight division and is currently ranked in the top 10 in the official WBO 160-pound rankings.
