A women?s strawweight title bout is going to be headlining the upcoming One Championship 79 card as Jing Nan Xiong defends against Samara Santos.
Xiong (12-1-0) is going to be making the second defense of her championship, last defending it against Laura Balin at One Championship: Pinnacle Of Power. Xiong won the title all the way back at One Championship: Kings Of Courage in January 2018, defeating Tiffany Teo by fourth round TKO. Xiong enters the bout on the strength of a seven fight winning streak and her lone professional MMA loss came to Bellator MMA veteran Colleen Schneider.
Santos (11-5-1) will make her One Championships debut in this encounter and the title challenger has won just one of the last five bouts heading into the main event spot. Santos is also competing for a title for the first time in her professional MMA career, which began over three years ago. Santos has suffered a total of five defeats as a professional MMA fighter, with one of those losses coming to Invicta FC veteran Agnieszka Niedzwiedz.
One Championship 79 takes place on Saturday, September 8 from the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China with Jing Nan Xiong and Samara Santos headlining. Fightful will provide live coverage of the event, which streams live on the One Championship app.
