Joanna Jedrzejczyk Wants To Talk With Ronda Rousey About Weight Cutting

Former UFC Women’s Champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk lost the gold to Rose Namajunas this past November at UFC 217.

Before the rematch with Namajunas at UFC 223, a hopeful former title holder would like to speak with former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey about her weight cut prior to UFC 193.

“I always wanted to talk to Ronda about how she felt the night before that night that she lost to Holly Holm. I was afraid to ask her before because I was winning,” Jedrzejczyk said on The MMA Hour. “Actually, we have one agent (in common) and I spoke to him and told him that my legs went numb and that I felt a bit groggy or something like this. The funny thing is Ronda felt the same way; she had a terrible weight cut before Holly Holm. I would like to sit with her and give an interview for people and to protect other fighters; younger fighters. Just to protect them. There is no price on our lives, so we must be serious with this.”

Jedrzejczyk admitted that she had to cut at least 15 pounds the day before weigh-ins for the title bout, while Rousey also had a terrible weight cut before losing the women’s bantamweight title to Holly Holm.

The former champ has also faced some criticism about her weight cutting experience, but the fighter says people just don’t understand much about it.

“They didn’t go through the weight cut, so they don’t understand,” she said. “They don’t understand what we had to go through, but one day I will explain to all of them.”

UFC 223 takes place on Saturday, April 7 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
