Jorge Masvidal Says UFC 211 Fight Not Going The Distance

MMA

Jorge Masvidal will be competing at UFC 211 and his opponent will be former UFC Middleweight Title challenger Demian Maia.

Masvidal doesn’t plan on going the distance in the fight, and wants to become only the second ever fighter to finish Maia.

“I’m going to kick his ass, really bad,” said Masvidal to MMA Mania. “It doesn’t make it through the third round. I don’t know if it’s the first, I don’t know if it’s the second, but it doesn’t make it through the third.”

The only other fighter to get a finish against Maia is former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nate Marquardt.

What Masvidal believes will shock people the most in his fight with Maia is his grappling skills and submission game.

“Just how people were surprised about my striking against Cowboy, they’re going to be even more surprised by my grappling in this fight,” Masvidal said. “You can’t beat a guy like Maia unless you can grapple at that level. And most of the dudes – especially the guys he’s fought – are not at that level of defensive wrestling or defensive jiu jitsu to beat him. I know that I am. I know that in every position we could come to in MMA, I’m going to out-position this guy. I’m going to out-will him, and then he’s going to give in to the fatal blow.”

UFC 211 takes place on Saturday, May 13 from the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas with Stipe Miocic and Junior Dos Santos headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
