Jose Ramirez Says There Are Negotiations In Place To Unify Titles With Maurice Hooker

Jose Ramirez is hoping to get a chance to unify his WBC junior welterweight title with WBO champion Maurice Hooker.

In an interview with Tha Boxing Voice, Ramirez said he wants to have the unification fight against Hooker and even revealed how negotiations are going. Ramirez didn't reveal much about the progress being made between both sides but stated that he hopes promoter Bob Arum lets him fight Hooker soon.

Unranked UFC Fighters to Watch out for in 2024

"Right now, we're negotiating with Hooker because we're both open to fight. We're both world champions, so let's do a unification match. We're negotiating. Last thing I heard, Eddie Hearn (Hooker's promoter) sent out an offer to Bob Arum. Hopefully Top Rank and Bob allows me the opportunity to go out and prove myself. That's the fight I want next," Ramirez said.

The two fighters have been linked to a unification fight for several months. After Hooker successfully retained his title against Alex Saucedo last year on ESPN, Ramirez hopped on to the ring and the two titleholders stated that they want to fight each other. Since that exchange, Ramirez would go on to defend his WBC title with a majority decision win against Jose Zepeda back in February.

Just days before Hooker defended his title against Mikkel LesPierre in March, he told Fightful that he still wants to fight Ramirez, hoping that the fight ends up on DAZN.

"I want the WBC title. Everyone come to DAZN! Anybody. Come to DAZN. Where’s Jack Catterall? He came all the way over here to watch me fight. Just wait young grasshopper, you will get your turn," Hooker said.
