Joseph Parker To Have Meetings With Several Promoters

The heavyweight division is in the midst of a period where several top names stand to sign career-high payments and former champion Joseph Parker is looking to get into the action.

Parker and promoter David Higgins are going to have meetings early next week with the likes of Al Haymon of PBC, Top Rank and Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing with the hopes that one of those promoters sign Parker to a lucrative deal.

Higgins spoke to Stuff and said the idea of these meetings is to capitalize on Parker's availability to fight anywhere with the hopes of securing a title shot and get a multi-million dollar promotional deal. Several boxers have signed massive deals with several promoters such as Canelo Alvarez when he signed with DAZN and Tyson Fury's recent contract with Top Rank Boxing.

"The sheer amount of money flowing is unprecedented. No one owns sport yet, there is no Facebook or Google of sport. It is the wild west, it is uncharted territory, it's there for the taking. It's about buying content now and building subscribers, so it's a competitive situation. They want to sign up top fighters and then offer subscriptions. I'm going to sound out the major players and find out what sort of multi-fight deal can be put on the table," Higgins said.

A former WBO heavyweight champion, Parker has won just one of his last three fights in 2018. Parker lost his belt in a unification fight to Anthony Joshua, who now owns the WBA, WBO and IBF titles, in March 2018. Afterwards, Parker lost a decision to Dillian Whyte in July, but bounced back with a third-round knockout win over Alexander Flores.
