Late in 2016, former UFC Heavyweight Champion Josh Barnett was notified of a potential violation by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
This past March, instead of getting a suspension for the potential failed test, it was determined by an independent arbitrator that Barnett should just get a public reprimand from USADA.
Despite not getting a suspension due to a potential failed drug test, a now free to fight again Barnett has opted to sue supplement company Genkor according to MMA Junkie for allegedly providing the supplement that caused the whole mess with USADA.
The lawsuit was filed this past Monday at the Los Angeles Superior Court in Los Angeles, California. Barnett has filed suit against Genkor on the grounds of negligence, breach of implied and express warranty, and strict product liability.
Genkor makes the supplement Tributestin, which is what allegedly caused the potential USADA violation last year. The supplement maker is based out of Los Angeles, which is the most likely reason why the suit was filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Barnett is seeking compensation and unspecified general damages from the suit, but if Barnett does win the suit, it would be up to the court to determine how much money the UFC fighter would get.
There has been no response from Genkor at this time in regards to the lawsuit.
