Josh Thomson Loses Second Appeal For Bellator 172 Loss, Wins Asterisk Instead

MMA

Josh Thomson suffered a knockout loss to Patricky Freire in the main event of Bellator 172 earlier this year. The fighter would then file an appeal with the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) and was promptly denied in his appeal attempt.

However, the fighter was able to get a face to face meeting with member of the CSAC in an attempt to get the fight result overturned.

Thomson would lose that appeal, but he would win an asterisk next to the official bout result that would acknowledge that a headbutt from Freire to Thomson happened during the fight.

It was a result that the fighter would mock through a post on Twitter:

CSAC Executive Director Andy Foster says that addition of the asterisk is for other people to know specific information about this fight down the line.

?It?s so people can see the California commission has reviewed this fight, that they went through a formal process,? Foster said to MMA Fighting. ?We do notes on people all the time. It?s for other people to know. Somebody might need to know this information someday and it?s important to have when people look.?

Freire has already moved on from the situation and is fighting Ben Henderson at Bellator 183, while Thomson hasn?t gotten a fight scheduled at this time.
