Joshua Buatsi To Fight On Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. Undercard

Another rising British star has been added to the June 1 DAZN card at Madison Square Garden.

Matchroom Boxing announced that unbeaten light heavyweight prospect Joshua Buatsi will defend his WBA International light heavyweight title against Marco Antonio Periban on the show in New York City. The fight would be part of the undercard for the unified heavyweight title fight between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz Jr.

Buatsi has won all 10 of his pro bouts since making his debut in 2017, capturing the WBA International and BBBofC British titles. Buatsi has held the WBA International belt last July when he knocked out Andrejs Pokumeiko in the first round and has defended the title twice. The 26-year-old Buatsi is coming off a British title win against Liam Conroy back on March 23.

Periban will be fighting for the first time since May 2017 and will be looking for his first win since May 2016. Periban once challenged for the WBC super middleweight title back in 2013 when he lost a majority decision against Sakio Bika. The 34-year-old has faced notable boxers such as Avni Yildirim, James DeGale, J'Leon Love and Badou Jack throughout his career.

The announcement would mean that there are now a total of six title fights with three of them being world title bouts confirmed for the show. Aside from the main event, there is also the undisputed women's lightweight title fight between Katie Taylor and Delfine Persoon and the WBA super middleweight title bout between Callum Smith and Hassan N'Dam.
