Julianna Pena wants a UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title shot. For now, it seems that she's being forced to take a backseat to former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, who Pena has dubbed “Princess Royal Ronda.”
Pena recently appeared on The MMA Hour and talked about why she believes she should be getting the next shot at the title.
“I am the best fighter out there right now, I’m the best in the division…” said Pena, before questioning Valentina Shevchenko's spot in line., saying “Who is that? What has she done in the division?”
Pena quickly turned her attention back to Rousey during the interview, claiming that the former women’s bantamweight champion has been ducking her.
"(UFC) knows what I want, they are waiting on princess royal Ronda to decide…Ronda has been avoiding me since day one, and that (all the top girls) don’t want to fight me” said Pena.
Pena has not fought since earning a unanimous decision victory over former women’s bantamweight title challenger Cat Zingano at UFC 200, while Rousey has not competed since losing the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Title to Holly Holm at UFC 193.
UFC Preside Dana White then took to Twitter, saying that Pena has been turning down offered fights.
The current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion is Amanda Nunes. Her next opponent has yet to be announced, but is rumored she will be defending her championship at UFC 207 this coming December.
