Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was originally set to go for his first fight since losing to Canelo Alvarez in May, but now his planned January fight against Alfredo "Perro" Angulo hangs in the balance.
Chavez Jr. spoke with ESPN Deportes and revealed that Angulo's team has been withholding certain details in their fight contract and that the fight is in limbo with no guarantee that the fight will even happen. Chavez Jr. said he won't take a fight with Angulo without knowing all the details, including fight date, venue and purse amounts.
"I've been training, ready to fight, working hard. 'Perro' keeps talking, but they still haven't offered anything concrete to me. They have me stuck in limbo. I haven't liked how things have gone and I hope to meet with Al Haymon, simply to find out where things stand. I don't want to this to go on for any longer. Everything in the beginning went well and now the attorneys don't want to give me the [financial] numbers like before," Chavez Jr. said.
The fight between Chavez Jr. and Angulo was originally set to take place in California on January 26, but any further details had not been mentioned. Both Chavez Jr. and Angulo are coming off losses, with Chavez Jr. losing to Canelo on pay-per-view and Angulo losing to Freddy Hernandez in 2016.
Angulo, a former interim WBO super welterweight champion, has a measly 2-4 record since the start of 2013, losing to the likes of Canelo and Erislandy Lara.
