The super welterweight division is undergoing a bit of a potential unification war. A recent Showtime Championship Boxing telecast featured the WBA, WBC and IBF champions retain their respective titles, setting up potential unification fights between the three coming in the future. Miguel Cotto, the WBO champion, is defending his belt against Sadam Ali on December 2. Cotto is retiring after the fight, potentially leaving the title vacant at the end of the year.

Brook was the IBF welterweight champion until earlier this year when he lost the title to Errol Spence Jr. Brook is recovering from a broken orbital bone suffered in that fight. Before the loss to Spence, Brook moved up to middleweight for a chance to fight Gennady Golovkin for the unified middleweight titles. Brook also suffered a broken orbital bone in the fight against Golovkin.
