For his next Octagon appearance, the contender wants a shot at UFC Interim Middleweight Champion Robert Whittaker.

“I feel like Robert Whittaker and I should be next. We’re two young guys; we haven’t even hit our prime yet. I just beat the guy who was the guys, so I feel I should be next,” Gastelum said after the event.

Whittaker won the championship when he defeated Yoel Romero by decision at UFC 213, but he has yet to defend the gold.

Gastelum is also ready to focus on a fighter who is around his age range, instead of continuing to fight the legends of the UFC.

“You guys say I beat up all the elderly, and Robert Whittaker is definitely not elderly – I think he’s probably my age,” Gastelum said. “So I’m up for the challenge.”

The UFC Interim Middleweight Champion recently stated he would like to fight at UFC 221 this coming February, which takes place in his home country of Australia. If Gastelum were to challenge for the gold, it would be the first title shot he has gotten in the UFC.
