UFC President Dana White has something big planned for Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje are battling in a lightweight title unification bout in the main event of UFC 254. If White is to be believed, Nurmagomedov will have something special to look forward to after the event. Nurmagomedov revealed that White has something special lined of for him after UFC 254.
“I don’t think [retirement after this fight],” Nurmagomedov said at the UFC 254 virtual media day (via Damon Martin of MMA Fighting). “We have a couple options. We’re going to think about this after this fight. Dana told me after this fight, he has something special for me. But I told him, please keep this, after fight we’re going to talk. He say has very big things after this fight for me. We’ll see.”
Nurmagomedov’s next fight after UFC 254 could be his retirement bout, but the fighter hasn’t confirmed that at this time. The lightweight champion must first get past the aforementioned Gaethje and Nurmagomedov isn’t underestimating him.
“Right now, I’m focused on Justin Gaethje, Oct. 24,” Nurmagomedov said. “I am focused on him. I don’t want to underestimate this guy. Justin is a very tough opponent, very tough guy. He follow his dream. He’s very hungry. He just beat a very tough opponent. I don’t want to underestimate him. I am focused on Oct. 24.”
