UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is going to be defending the gold against former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 229.

Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson and former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis are set to meet in the co-main event of UFC 229.

Nurmagomedov wants to see Ferguson pull out the win at the event, but firmly believes that Pettis is a bad match up for him.

“I hope he going to win,” Nurmagomedov said in a recent interview with Brian Vega. “But my opinion, this fight is stylistically very bad matchup for Tony Ferguson. I don’t know how he feel after he is injured. He is [34] years old. He come back after injury. If he wins, it’s going to be big fight next year. One more biggest fight in UFC history. Let’s go.”

Ferguson and Nurmagomedov were set to meet at least four times already under the UFC banner, but injuries and other issues have caused the two to never actually fight.

UFC 229 takes place on Saturday, October 3 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
