One of the UFC's fastest-rising stars in recent memory is considering retirement before he even enters his prime.
Surging UFC welterweight Khamzat Chimaev announced via Instagram that he think's he's "done" with MMA following a number of COVID-19 complications.
"I just want to say thank you all so much for supporting me in my journey in this sport. I think I'm done, yes I know I didn't take the belt but it's not the most important victory in this life, it may upset you but my heart and body tell me everything. I want to say a big thank you to my team [All Star Gym: Sweden]. I want to say a big thank you to the UFC."
The 26-year old rose to UFC stardom in 2020 when he submitted John Phillips at UFC Fight Island 1 and knocked out Rhys McKee just 10 days later at UFC Fight Island 3 before taking just 17-seconds to knockout Gerald Meerschaert at UFC Vegas 11.
Chimaev was slated for the biggest fight of his career against Leon Edwards but had to have the bout rescheduled when he [Chimaev] tested positive for COVID-19. The bout was later rescheduled but Chimaev once again had to be removed from the matchup due to lingering complications of the virus.
