Larry Merchant Says Real Boxing Fans Don’t Care About MMA

Larry Merchant is widely recognized as one of the greatest boxing analysts of all time, having been calling fights for over four decades now.

The boxing legend also has a great distaste towards MMA and he says that real boxing fans are those who don’t care for MMA.

Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler Officially Announced For UFC 303, Will Take Place At Welterweight

"I can't name three of them (MMA fighters). And I don't think many of the fans can either. I don't think they (boxing fans) care,” Merchant said to Fight Hub TV.

In just a few short weeks, the UFC Lightweight Champion in Conor McGregor faces Floyd Mayweather is what can easily be described as the biggest MMA fighter versus boxer bout of all time.

Merchant also claims that the only thing MMA promotions have done right is to find a way to mass market street fights.

“I think it connects to me with the short attention span. If you were walking down the street and saw a good street fight, you'd probably stop and take a look at it. And they've found a way to market that. And that's exciting,” says Merchant.

Despite being the ripe old age of 86 years old, it doesn’t seem like the boxing analyst is slowing down anytime soon.
