The heavyweight and featherweight playoffs took place last week at the Professional Fighters League 8 event, with the finalists now set in both weight classes.
However, a pair of alternate bouts were set for the event, with Muhammed Dereese facing Mike Kyle in the heavyweight fight and former Bellator MMA Bantamweight Champion Marcos Galvao taking on UFC veteran Jeremy Kennedy in the other encounter.
While the heavyweight alternate bout went on without a hitch, a similar thing couldn’t be said about the featherweight alternate fight. That’s because the contest between Galvao and Kennedy was canceled, with no reason given by the promotion at this time.
Kennedy would take to Instagram to issue his own statement on the situation:
Well I was about to capitalize on a huge opportunity. I am always in shape and ready, I cut & made weight and I was told everything was alright. It looks like circumstances that are out of my control won’t allow me to compete. I am devastated about this but it is out of my hands. I’m sorry to my opponent @marcoslorogalvao @pflmma. Time to watch @lancepalmer run through this tournament, and enjoy this beautiful city.
Luckily the alternates weren’t need for either division because all twelve playoff bouts went off without a hitch.
