Liam Williams Wants To Fight Gennadiy Golovkin: "He's At That Age Where He's Gonna Start Dipping"

With Gennadiy Golovkin still searching for an opponent, Welsh middleweight contender Liam Williams has thrown his hat into the ring.

During a press conference for his fight against Karim Achour on July 13, Williams spoke about any challenges that he wished to have down the road and mentioned that he would be up to fight Golovkin. Williams went as far as to say that Golovkin, at 37 years old, is at the age where his skills should start diminishing.

"I'd absolutely love to fight Gennadiy Golovkin because I've always loved watching him. He's at that age where he's gonna start dipping at some point and I just love a challenge," Williams said.

Of course, Golovkin proved that he is still a top contender at middleweight with a fourth-round knockout win over Steve Rolls on June 8 at Madison Square Garden. The fight was Golovkin's first in a multi-year deal with DAZN and Golovkin had been adamant about fighting Canelo Alvarez a third time, but negotiations for the trilogy fight had proven unsuccessful thus far.

Ever since Williams suffered consecutive losses to former world champion Liam Smith in 2017, he has moved up in weight and is victorious in his last four fights, all by knockout. Williams has held the BBBofC British middleweight title since last December and the fight against Achour will be for the vacant WBC Silver title.
