The controversy rattled a lot of people who were watching the fight, including a former owner of the UFC in Lorenzo Fertitta.
“Fertitta texted me tonight and said, ‘You guys have gotta get instant replay, because that was the wrong call,'” White said at the UFC 211 post-fight press conference. “We need to work on that.”
Poirier has filed an appeal to have the fight changed from a no contest to a disqualification win for him, but a ruling on that appeal has yet to be revealed.
Even the UFC President in Dana White doesn’t know how situations like the illegal knee strike should be handled, but he knows something needs to be done.
“We’re the guys driving the bus – we’re the guys that have to figure this out,” he said. “None of the other promotions are going to do it, you know what I mean? We’ve been the one to lead the charge on everything that’s happened in the sport, so we will continue to do that.”
Since the sale of the UFC, the Fertitta Brother's (Lorenzo & Frank) have started a private investment firm called Fertitta Capital.
