Amanda Serrano and Heather Hardy appear set to clash in a big fight for women's boxing.
According to promoter Lou DiBella, who revealed the news on Sirius XM Boxing, both Serrano and Hardy have agreed in principle to fight in the boxing ring later this year. No specifics on the fight was announced as he is still waiting to hear from fellow promoter Eddie Hearn and DAZN about the date and venue. The fight won't take place any time soon, however, as Bellator announced that Hardy will have her next MMA fight at Bellator 222 on June 14 in Madison Square Garden.
A recent tweet from Serrano may hint that the fight would be at 126 pounds, meaning Hardy's WBO featherweight title would be at stake. Serrano won the WBO super flyweight title in January but is no longer listed as the champion when looking at the official WBO rankings.
Serrano owns the all-time women's boxing and Puerto Rican boxing record for winning a world title in seven different weight classes. Only Manny Pacquiao has won a title in more weight classes. Serrano previously held the WBO featherweight title in 2016 when she defeated Olivia Gerula to win the title. Serrano then made just one defense of the title later that year before dropping to super bantamweight to win the WBO title in that division.
Hardy has won all 22 of her pro bouts since making her debut in 2012. Hardy won the then-vacant WBO title, last held by Serrano's sister Cindy, this past October in New York City when she defeated Shelly Vincent in a rematch from their 2016 bout, regarded as one of women's boxing's best fights of that year.
