After Manny Pacquiao?s impressive return to the ring on November 5 against Jessie Vargas, talks of a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather immediately sprung up.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Pacquiao said he wants a rematch with the retired undefeated boxer, as he Pacquiao believes the boxing world deserves a better fight than the first encounter the two had in 2015.
"If we fight again I will do everything in my power to win back the trust of the fans," Pacquiao said. "They would not be disappointed again if it happens. I promise to make sure they love it. That is what we owe them. We have not had any discussions about a second fight but I know I will be boxing again. And if the fans want it, why not? I will make sure I am able to be my best if there is a next time."
Pacquiao defeated Jessie Vargas via unanimous decision to capture the WBO welterweight title, a belt Pacquiao last held before losing it to Mayweather. Mayweather was in attendance with his daughter and Pacquiao seemingly looked at Mayweather's direction at some points during the fight. The fight broke boxing pay-per-view records as Mayweather ultimately won the fight via decision.
The new welterweight champion did say that his brief return from retirement won?t be for one fight -- he'll fight for the long haul. A number of boxers not named Floyd Mayweather have come out to publicly and state interest in fighting Pacquiao at some point in the future, including Kell Brook and Amir Khan.
