Martin Murray Wants Higher Purse And Insurance If Offered Another Billy Joe Saunders Fight

Martin Murray has dealt with a lot of bad luck in regards to getting his shot at the WBO middleweight title, but still wants a shot at the belt.

In a post on his Instagram account, Murray said he still wants a shot at Billy Joe Saunders' 160-pound world title, but can't trust Saunders to follow through after the fight has been postponed twice already. Murray expressed frustrations at Saunders for the postponements and said if a third attempt at pitting Saunders against Murray happens, then Murray wants a higher purse and an insurance policy in case Saunders gets injured once more.

"A lot of people talking about me fighting Billy Joe Saunders again today and it's a fight I've always wanted but you just can't trust the man. If the fight was ever put to me again with an insurance policy in place and an improvement on the purse then i would consider it but not even thinking about anything like that yet."

Murray was supposed to face Saunders on April 14, but Saunders suffered a hand injury which postponed the bout. The fight then got rescheduled for June 23 as the main event for a boxing card at the O2 Arena, but that fight got called off after Saunders got injured once more.

Although the April 14 card was canceled as a result of Saunders' first injury, the June 23 card continued and Murray remained on the card against a replacement opponent. Murray fought Roberto Garcia on June 23 with Murray picking up the win by unanimous decision as well as the WBC Silver title. Even as the WBC Silver champion, Murray won't get a chance to challenge for the WBC title soon as champion Gennady Golovkin, whom Murray already lost to years ago, is busy fighting Canelo Alvarez in September and interim champion Jermall Charlo will most likely be the first fighter from the WBC to challenge for the title afterwards.
