Matchroom Boxing Signs Undisputed Welterweight Champion Cecilia Braekhus

Matchroom Boxing has signed undisputed welterweight champion Cecilia Braekhus to a promotional deal.

The announcement was made official on Matchroom's social media channels with the news on her fight future set to be made soon.

The announcement gives Matchroom three fighters that are either current or former undisputed champions. Not only does the promotional company have lightweight ruler Katie Taylor on its roster but also former cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk, the current mandatory challenger to the WBO heavyweight title.

Braekhus has been inactive in the ring ever since she headlined HBO's last-ever boxing telecast back in December 2018, beating Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes by unanimous decision. Braekhus has been the undisputed champion since 2014 when she defeated then-IBF champion Ivana Habazin to unify the WBA, WBO, WBC and IBF titles and has been a world champion since 2009, never losing a fight throughout her career.

There is no word on when Braekhus will make her official Matchroom Boxing debut, but it is expected to be on a card that will also be streamed to the United States on the DAZN streaming service thanks to its multi-year broadcast deal with the promotional company.
