The main event is set for the first CES MMA event of 2018 as Matt Bessette defends the featherweight championship against Jamall Emmers.

Bessette (22-7-0-1NC) is defending the title for a third time, last defending it against Rey Trujillo at CES MMA 44. Bessette was initially victorious on Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contenders Series Episode 1, but the bout would be changed to a no contest after it was revealed that the competitor illegally used an IV before the fight. Bessette also competed four times in Bellator MMA and defeated UFC veteran Diego Nunes at Bellator 110.

Emmers (12-3-0) is making his CES MMA debut in this bout and does so on the strength of a three fight winning streak. Emmers has previously challenged for the Resurrection Fighting Alliance Featherweight Title, losing to then champion Thiago Moises at RFA 38. Emmers has seen his last three fights go the distance and it has been well over a year since the competitor got a finish.

CES MMA 48 takes place on Friday, February 2 from the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, Rhode Island with Matt Bessette and Jamall Emmers headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which airs live on AXS TV.
