The interim champion would go on a tirade against the UFC after the title fight announcement, but Michael Chiesa believes it would?ve been smarter for Covington to speak with the UFC brass behind the scenes first.
?I think Colby should have tried to talk more with Dana and management before he went public,? Chiesa said on Pull No Punches (via Bloody Elbow).
Chiesa recently made his UFC Welterweight Division at UFC 232, defeating former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit by second round submission.
A huge reason that Covington isn?t getting the title shot, according to Chiesa, is that Covington may not have the fan following the fighter believed he had.
?...people don?t really like Colby, he doesn?t have as big of a following as he thinks he does. That?s the problem.,? says Chiesa.
