Michael Johnson Now Wants To Fight Cub Swanson In Featherweight Debut

MMA

Michael Johnson is planning in making his featherweight division debut in his next fight and he initially wanted that debut to come against former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo.

Now that Aldo is facing Ricardo Lamas in a rematch later this year, the TUF alumni in Johnson has decided he wants to fight Cub Swanson now.

“I think me and Cub would be a great fight. I wanted Aldo first, but it looks like him and Ricardo are going to fight, and man, I mean, Cub would be the next great option. I’ve gotten into this business with one thing on my mind, and that’s to fight the best guys in the division, to fight whoever’s the champ, whoever’s beaten everybody. Those are the guys I want to fight, so a fight with Cub, you know, that’s right up my alley,” Johnson said to Flo Combat.

Swanson doesn’t have a fight scheduled at the moment, with his last fight coming against Artem Lobov in the main event of UFC Fight Night 108.

Not only does Johnson have his sights set on a fight with Swanson, but he also has an event in mind where he would like to see the bout happen at.

“He’s a friend of mine but it’s all business and I want to test myself, And he’s the one that will test me. Man, December 30th’s right up my alley. It’s a great card. It’s another card in Vegas. I need to redeem myself after my last trip to Vegas, so that’s perfect for me, man. I just got back into training, and I’m hitting it hard. I’m going to be ready for anything that comes up,” says Johnson.

UFC 219 takes place on Saturday, December 30 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with no main event announced at this time. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
