Miguel Cotto is stuck in another game of hurry up and wait with Manny Pacquiao and Bob Arum, as he tries to map out his next fight.
Cotto (40-5, 33 KO) was originally set to fight this summer, but won't be competing until at least the fall as officials do their best to schedule a bout for the former champion.
Manny Pacquiao's return plays a big role in when Cotto could fight, as Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum has a hold on the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas for October 5 just in case Pacquiao were to fight.
The Ring reports that the preferred date for Cotto is to fight in the fall, but will likely only play out that way if Pacquiao opts to remain retired to fulfill his duties as a Senator in the Philippines. In the event that Pacquiao were to return, December 3rd on HBO pay-per-view could end up as a possibility for the 35-year old Cotto to fight.
According to The Ring, officials are looking through a list of ?big names? in the range of 150-pounds, but that Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40 KO) is the first choice. Marquez, however, would prefer not to fight above 147 pounds, while Cotto wants to fight closer to 150 pounds.
Cotto last fought Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez to a unanimous decision loss in November of 2015, where he lost the Lineal and Ring Middleweight Championships. The fight was a major pay-per-view success, raking in approximately 900,000 buys and $58 million in revenue.
