Mike Jackson may have had an opportunity for a fight with former professional wrestler turned MMA fighter CM Punk, but a loss to Mickey Gall at UFC Fight Night 82 eliminated those chances. That hasn't stopped Jackson from seeking his dream fight.
Jackson recently spoke with the folks at MMA Junkie to talk about why he wants to fight the former WWE Champion Punk.
“I’ve gotten wind that Punk wants to get another fight, and it only makes sense” says Jackson.
Normally a bout pitting and 0-1-0 fighter against an 0-1-0 fighter like Jackson and Punk, isn't good for business, but Jackson tends to think otherwise.
“It’s about making money. I’m a businessman, so I understand the logistics of all of this. As a fight fan, I remember when I heard about (Punk fighting in MMA). I was like, ‘No, no one wants to see that.’ But people are going to tune in for the spectacle of it” says Jackson.
Jackson also talks about the things that he believes that he has in common with the former WWE Heavyweight Champion. Apparently their 0-1-0 record aren't the only similarities between the two.
“The experience is the same. We both have a loss to Mickey Gall. He can’t go in there and fight dudes with a lot of experience, as opposed to bringing in someone else with very limited MMA experience. It only makes sense to put us both in there," said Jackson.
Jackson isn't currently signed to the UFC, and UFC President Dana White said recently that Punk may need to take his next fight outside of the company.
