Longtime MMA veteran Jake Heun has been sentenced to seven years and nine months in prison on drug trafficking charges in Victoria, Australia.
The Daily Mail's Wayne Flower was the first to report on the news of Heun's arrest and sentencing. The 34-year old Anchorage, Alaska native was arrested back in September 2020 after a package that was addressed to his apartment spilled open in an aircraft, revealing it contained methamphetamine which tipped off law enforcement in Australia. This led to authorities searching Heun's' phone and finding more incriminating evidence showing that he was participating in illegal drug trafficking activities.
Heun pled guilty to the charges and now faces the near eight-year prison sentence, but is eligible for parole after four years and nine months. He's already served more than a year of time though, which could lead to a quicker parole hearing. Heun went 15-9 as a professional mixed martial artist from April 2011 to December 2019 and made appearances on seasons 17 and 19 of The Ultimate Fighter. He also had fought in the PFL, WSOF, and RIZIN promotions over the course of his career competing against the likes of Alex Nicholson, Jiri Prochazka, Vinny Magalhaes, and Satoshi Ishii.
