MVP Wanted Paul Daley In The Grand Prix Opening Round

MMA

Michael Page and Paul Daley will meet in the main event of Bellator 216, which also serves as an opening round fight in the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix.

MVP wanted to battle Daley in the first round of the grand prix, mainly because he didn’t think an opportunity would come later in the tournament.

“I wanted it, because I don’t believe he would have made it through to the final anyway,” Page said at the Bellator media day (via MMA Junkie).

The duo have been rivals for quite some time and had a pull apart scuffle in the crowd during Bellator 179.

Whether they battled in the grand prix or a non-tournament fight, a bout against Daley is something MVP has wanted for a long time.

“This is what I’ve been screaming for for a very long time now,” Page said. “I’ve been asking for this fight for ages. I’ve had contracts sent to me, like, I’m ready to go, and it just wasn’t reciprocated on the other side.”

Bellator 216 takes place on Saturday, February 16 from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut with Paul Daley and Michael Page headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on DAZN.
