A middleweight division attraction is the first fight set for UFC On Fox 23 as Sam Alvey will be taking on Nate Marquardt.
Alvey (29-8-0-1NC) enters the fight riding a three fight winning streak, defeating Eric Spicely, Kevin Casey and Alex Nicholson. Alvey has only suffered a total of three defeats in his nine UFC bouts, those losses came to Tom Watson, Derek Brunson and Elias Theodorou. Alvey has spent his entire UFC career competing on either “fight night” or “UFC On Fox” cards, he has never fought on a UFC pay-per-view card.
Marquardt (35-16-2) has only won three of eight fights in his second UFC run, those wins have come over Tamdan McCrory, CB Dolloway and James Te Huna. Marquardt is also a former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion, he defeated current UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley to win that belt. Marquardt also challenged for the UFC Middleweight Title many years back, losing to then champion Anderson Silva at UFC 73 in July 2007.
There is no word yet on what portion of the card this fight will be taking place on, as this is the first fight announced for the event.
UFC On Fox 23 takes place on Saturday, January 28 from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado with no main event announced as of yet.
