Gennady Golovkin Wins Purse Split Battle Against Daniel Jacobs In Negotiations

While Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs, both WBA middleweight champions, keep trying to negotiate a fight that the WBA ordered to happen soon, one roadblock was what the purse split should be for the fight.

Golovkin, the organization's super champion, won a purse split battle and it will be a 75-25 split in favor of Golovkin, according to the WBA. Jacobs, the WBA regular champion, was seeking a 60-40 split in favor of Golovkin, but whenever there is a fight between a "super" champion and a "regular" champion, the split in the WBA would typically be 75-25 in favor of the "super" champion (Golovkin).

Golovkin's promoter Tom Loeffler told ESPN that the main focus is now trying to make the fight happen.

“Now that the ruling has come down I will continue to try to make the fight,” Loeffler said. “It’s a great fight and one I think both fighters want and a fight the fans are interested in. Everyone was waiting on the decision from the WBA and it should give us guidance on how to negotiate the fight from here. Gennady is looking forward to the fight. It’s the No.1 middleweight in the world against No. 2 and a huge opportunity for Danny. If he beats Gennady, all of a sudden he is at the top of the sport of boxing.”

Golovkin vs. Jacobs would be the biggest fight for Golovkin, not named Canelo Alvarez, at the moment. Golovkin said that the megafight between him and Canelo would take place in the fall of 2017 and that his goal is to win all the middleweight world titles.

Golovkin is currently the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, and IBO middleweight champion. The only world titles he is missing is Jacobs' title and Billy Joe Saunders' WBO title.
