Joseph Parker Lowers Profit Demand For Potential Anthony Joshua Fight

WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker is really hoping to get a shot at unified champion Anthony Joshua, so much so that he and his camp are lowering their own demands in the hopes a unification fight can happen.

In a press conference, Parker's promoter David Higgins said he and Parker originally wanted 40 percent of the profit gained from a potential fight against the British superstar. Higgins said he would take the fight for as low as 35 percent.

“The deal must be open book revenue share. In good faith we have moved down from our opening 40 percent position. This demonstrates we genuinely want to unify and will put it all on the line. Our revised non-negotiable bottom line is 35 percent of net profit. Joshua has two of the major belts, Parker has one of the major belts. Unification happens maybe once every 10 years and has special value. Joseph Parker is a genuine world champion and has earned the right to a fair purse and a respectable 35 percent share of an historic unification bout. Joshua has stated repeatedly he wants to unify the heavyweight division this year. If they are sincere then Eddie Hearn needs to make a fight with Parker or Wilder,” Higgins said.

It's likely that Joshua would emerge a heavy betting favorite in a potential fight with Parker. Boxing is one of the most watched and bet sports in the world. Joshua and Parker retained their respective titles in the past couple of months. Joshua retained his WBA and IBF heavyweight titles against Carlos Takam in October while Parker retained his title against Hughie Fury. Parker won the title, which was last held by Tyson Fury, back in December 2016 when he defeated Andy Ruiz by majority decision.

Joshua has also been linked to a potential fight against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, but both sides have entered a verbal war over making the fight a reality.
