Report: Top Rank Signs Sullivan Barrera, Next Fight In June

Former title challenger Sullivan Barrera is heading to Top Rank Boxing.

According to Dan Rafael of ESPN, Barrera has signed with Top Rank and his first fight appears to be already set. The report also stated that Barrera's Top Rank debut will take place on June 8 in Reno, Nevada as part of an ESPN-televised card.

Barrera would be facing twice-beaten veteran Michael Seals on the card and serve as the co-feature bout. The card, which has yet to be formally announced, is expected to be headlined by Oscar Valdez defending his WBO featherweight world title against Erick Ituarte.

The 37-year-old Barrera once challenged for the WBA light heavyweight title back in 2018, but was stopped in the final round by Dmitry Bivol. The loss snapped Barrera's four-fight win streak since his first pro loss against Andre Ward back in 2016. Barrera won his last fight against Seanie Monaghan by unanimous decision this past November. Barrera is also ranked by all four major governing bodies, being ranked No. 6 by the WBC, No. 2 by the WBA, No. 11 by the IBF and No. 6 by the WBO.

Barrera would join a loaded light heavyweight roster at Top Rank that would include the likes of WBC  champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk, WBO champion Sergey Kovalev and IBF champion Artur Beterbiev plus former world champions Eleider Alvarez, Gilberto Ramirez. Former super middleweight title challenger Jesse Hart is also looking to make the jump to light heavyweight.
