Former World Series Of Fighting Lightweight Title challenger Nick Newell retired after a decision win over Tom Marcellino at the WSOF 24 in October 2015.
However, just about two years after retiring, the congenital amputee is returning and he has signed a multi-fight deal with the Legacy Fighting Alliance.
The WSOF veteran admits that he is coming out of retirement because he missed the thrill of competition.
?At the end of the day, I missed it,? Newell said to MMA Fighting. ?I?m a competitive person, I enjoy the competition, it?s something that you can?t quite describe unless you?ve done it. But I wanted to make sure I was doing it for the right reasons and now it feels right.?
In his lone title opportunity in the WSOF, the returning Newell suffered a TKO loss to then WSOF Lightweight Champion Justin Gaethje at the WSOF 11.
Despite his want to be back in the cage, the fighter is first going to get married and then he will focus on his MMA return.
?My fiancee?s been with me since before she even knew what MMA was,? Newell said. ?I?m training all the time, so it?s not like I?m out of shape, but we?re going to have our wedding, the honeymoon, the holidays, then I?ll hit the ground running with the New Year and I hope to fight soon thereafter.?
Prior to his retirement, the fighter picked up some notable wins over the likes of TUF alumni Keon Caldwell, Eric Reynolds, Joe Condon and the aforementioned Tom Marcellino.
