A lightweight division attraction has been added to the upcoming CES MMA 56 card as Nick Newell is going to be in action against Kalvin Hackney.
Newell (14-2-0) is back in action for the first time in almost a year, last competing in a losing effort to Alex Munoz via unanimous decision at Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series Episode 14. Newell also won four of five fights during a stint in the World Series Of Fighting, with that lone loss coming to Justin Gaethje at the WSOF 11. Newell has picked up fourteen wins as a professional MMA fighter and nine of them came by way of submission.
Hackney (14-4-0) is competing for the first time in over three years, with his last bout taking place at Legacy Fighting Championship 49 in December of 2015. Hackney had competed twice under the Bellator MMA banner, dropping bouts to the duo of EJ Brooks and Rene Nazare. Hackney has seen four of his professional MMA bouts go the distance, with the fighter winning two and losing two of those encounters.
CES MMA 56 takes place on Friday, May 31 from the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, Connecticut with Bruce Boyington and Dan Dubuque headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on UFC Fight Pass.
