One Championships CEO Says Promotion Would Sign GSP

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre is expected to make his MMA return after a four-plus year absence later in 2017.

According to One Championships CEO Chatri Sityodtong, the promotion would have no problem having GSP competed under their banner.

"We are very selective," Sityodtong said to IB Times UK. "Most UFC stars don't resonate in Asia, so we are looking at stars with amazing skills but also the values that really connect with the Asian audience. We'd be interested in Georges St-Pierre. He's a kind, gentle martial artist who truly represents the values we're looking for."

If GSP were to fight in One Championships down the line, it would be the first time in over twelve years that the fighter competed outside of the UFC auspices. Even though Sityodtong wants to sign GSP, the CEO does recognize the Canadian is under a deal with the UFC.

"He was under contract with the UFC," he added. "If he was a free agent, then yes, he's a martial artist and he truly represents our values."

The next One Championships event is going to be One Championships 56 on June 30, that event is going to be headlined by Vitaly Bigdash defending the middleweight strap against Aung La N Sang.
